Our story

A boxing family
since the 1970s

Witherspoon Boxing is run by Tim Witherspoon Jr., who boxed professionally and finished his career with 10 wins, 5 losses and 1 draw. He grew up in the sport. His father, Tim Witherspoon Sr., held the world heavyweight title twice.

After retiring, Tim worked as a personal trainer and kept meeting people who had given up on boxing somewhere else, not because they lacked ability but because nobody had taught them properly. So he opened his own gym at Door 19 of the Grundy Commons Business Center on Canal Street in Bristol Borough.

The standard has not changed since: defense before power, fundamentals before anything flashy, and classes small enough for the coach to know your name. Nobody spars until a coach says they are ready, and plenty of members never do.

Witherspoon Boxing is a Black owned neighborhood gym. Members come from Bristol, Croydon, Levittown, Fairless Hills, Morrisville, Bensalem and across the river from Burlington.

Today Witherspoon Boxing runs more than thirty classes a week across boxing, Muay Thai, cardio and youth programs. Kids as young as six train here, alongside adults who have never thrown a punch and amateurs preparing for their next bout. They share a floor, and nobody minds.
